some great news!
Homeowners insurance fees are based on a community fire service classification rating from the Insurance Services Office, ISO. This community rating, also referred to as a Public Protection Classification (PPC) is a 1-10 grade which includes levels of fire protection, water supply/infrastructure and 9-1-1 service. A rating of 1 is the best protection that a fire department can offer and a rating of 10 is equivalent to no fire department at all. Since 1987, Seymour’s Community has been rated as a 7/9 depending on several individual factors to each home. After an extensive inspection and interview process from ISO, Seymour VFD is honored and excited to announce to our 17,000 homes & businesses that our rating has ben lowered to a 5/5x. What does this mean? This should save our community members 4%-6% on their homeowner’s insurance, or an estimated $100,000 a year for our Tri-County response area.
The Insurance Professionals of Greater Knoxville
Seymour Volunteer Fire Department has continued to be a leader among their peers in providing updated equipment and increased educational opportunities to their firefighters and with community involvement. The Insurance Prfessionals of Greater Knoxville has been awarding the annual firefighter of the year since 2009. Three out of six years, Seymour Firefighters have won that award. The insurance industry recognizes the importance of partnering with our fire departments and their personnel. The improvement of Seymour’s protection class in Knox, Sevier, and Blount Counties will enable our insurance companies to offer feasible products at better rates.
