40 years for the Seymour Volunteer Fire Department

The Seymour Volunteer Fire Department will be celebrating 40 years of community service with a festival on Saturday, July 30, 2011.
SVFD has served the area area since 1971 and is a completely volunteer agency started by citizens and business owners.  In the past 40 years, the have added Vehicle Rescue/Extrication and Emergency Medical response to their services along with public education, smoke alarm installations.  The Fire Department has always been supported solely through donations and they currently run 4 to 5 calls per day.
“This celebration is the department’s way to thank everyone for their support throughout the years.  We hope to continue serving the community for many years to come,” said Corky McCarter, Assistant Chief for Seymour Volunteer Fire Department.
Everyone is invited to attend the festival at Seymour First Baptist Church, located at 11621 Chapman Highway in Seymour from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.   There will be activities and live demonstrations throughout the day including inflatable slides, equipment displays, and refreshment from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.  SafeKids and Sevier County Sheriff’s Department will sponsor a Car Seat Check Point from 10 a.m. to 12 noon.
All agencies that respond with Seymour Volunteer Fire Department have been invited to bring apparatus and this will be a great opportunity for the community to learn about their Fire Service throughout the area.
